But when he laid down his uniform, he chose not comfort, but seva — dedicating his life to battling the scourge of addiction.
His mission began in 1991 with a humble dispensary in Chandigarh, offering medical care to those with no other hope. By 2004, with the blessings of Padma Shri Baba Iqbal Singh Ji, he established the first Akal De-Addiction Centre at Cheema Sahib, followed by another at Baru Sahib in 2016. Under the Kalgidhar Trust, these sanctuaries became lifelines for over one lakh individuals, helping shattered lives find purpose, and broken families heal again.
Beyond healing, Dr. Singh became a voice for awareness — leading record-breaking campaigns, publishing research, and drawing global attention to Punjab’s fight against drugs. A soldier turned sevadar, a doctor turned healer of souls — his legacy is etched in every life reclaimed from addiction, every family restored, and every young heart given a second chance.

Dedicated Army Man
His role was not just to heal but to strengthen — ensuring that the nation’s defenders could return to duty with clarity, courage, and renewed resolve.
An officer of discipline and integrity, he embodied the finest traditions of the armed forces. Beyond his medical responsibilities, he was a leader who inspired respect and trust, a soldier who balanced compassion with firmness, and a patriot who put duty above self. His 38 years in uniform stand as a testament to his unwavering commitment to the nation and to the men and women who serve it.

Facilitator of Change
Instead of choosing any other subject as a medical student, he deliberately chose psychiatry — a field that few opt for in India, since mental health often carries stigma and is considered a difficult path. Yet, this very choice reflected his courage to step into areas where help was most needed, where others hesitated.
It was this fearless resolve that later became the foundation of his mission against drug addiction.
After serving the nation for 38 years in the Indian Army as a psychiatrist, Dr. (Col.) Rajinder Singh carried his discipline and sense of duty into civilian life. Where most would have chosen retirement, he chose seva — dedicating himself to healing Punjab from one of its gravest challenges: drug addiction. His medical expertise, coupled with his soldier’s determination, enabled him to create spaces of hope where despair once ruled.
By establishing the Akal De-Addiction Centres at Cheema Sahib and Baru Sahib under the Kalgidhar Trust, he not only treated thousands but also sparked a larger movement of awareness. From world record campaigns to international conferences, he shifted the conversation on addiction from stigma to healing. His work transformed individuals, restored families, and re-energized communities — making him not just a doctor or a sevadar, but a true facilitator of change.

Healing Families, Instilling Hope
Addiction does not destroy individuals alone — it shatters families, breaks trust, and leaves loved ones helpless. For those standing on the edge of despair, Dr (Col) Rajinder Singh has been a lifeline. With nearly four decades of service as a psychiatrist in the Indian Army, he carried not only medical expertise but also rare empathy into his mission against drug abuse in Punjab.
What set him apart was not just his discipline, but his spiritual path and deep compassion. He did not see his patients as cases but as human beings deserving dignity, understanding, and love. In a society where addiction often brings stigma, he offered acceptance. Where families had given up, he inspired them to believe again. His unique therapy was rooted in science but delivered with love as medicine, touching hearts as much as minds.
Through the Akal De-Addiction Centres at Cheema Sahib and Baru Sahib under the Kalgidhar Trust, he created spaces where healing was not limited to the patient alone, but extended to parents, spouses, and children — mending fractured relationships and bringing entire families back to life.
Dr. Rajinder Singh’s legacy lies not just in the thousands he helped recover, but in the hope he restored in homes once silenced by despair.

Embodiment of Seva and Professional Excellence
In the realm of de-addiction, Dr (Col) Rajinder Singh stands out not only as a compassionate healer but also as an exceptional administrator. Single-handedly managing three vital organizations, he exemplifies the spirit of seva in every aspect of his work.
Dr. Singh oversees the Bhai Ghanaiya Dispensary in Chandigarh and the Akal Drug De-Addiction Centres in Sangrur and Sirmaur, both of which are the largest in their region, managed by the Kalgidhar Trust. His ability to run these institutions seamlessly speaks volumes of his organizational prowess. He keeps his teams motivated and focused, ensuring high patient satisfaction and optimal occupancy rates. His leadership is marked by a blend of strategic foresight and a deep, personal commitment to each patient’s journey.
He believes in treating patients as his own family, embodying the virtue of seva in every decision. His empathetic nature and spiritual approach have not only healed individuals but have also restored hope to countless families.
